In sports the saying is that defense wins championships, well in Super Bowl XLVI at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Seattle Seahawks proved that. As 111.5 million people watched and saw the Seahawks shut down Peyton Manning and

the Denver Bronco’s high powered offense in a 43 to 8 victory on Sunday February 2, 2014, and win their first Super Bowl title in their franchise history.

Seattle Seahawks Linebacker Malcolm Smith won Super Bowl MVP after recording 5 tackles, recovering a fumble, and after returning an interception 69 yards for a touchdown. This 7th round draft pick out of University of Southern California had a great defensive game and was rewarded for his tremendous efforts.

111.5 million people was a television record for most watched show of all time, breaking the previous record of 111.3 which was set back in 2012 in Super Bowl XLVI when the New York Giants and the New England Patriots met up. After weeks of predicting bad weather for Super Bowl Sunday, the weather turned out to be perfect football weather, as the temperature rose to 49 degrees for kickoff, and it was warmer in New Jersey then in Denver and Seattle, the home cities of the teams.

Bruno Mars put on amazing half time show, in which he sung some of his famous songs ending with a fantastic firework display during his last song.

Not many people turn in to just watch the football game, but also to watch the latest batch of Super Bowl commercials. The 2014 Super Bowl commercials had some good ones like the “Puppy Love Commercial” from Budweiser that shows a friendship between a golden Labrador puppy and a Clydesdale horse. It was lovely commercial that got a lot of ‘aww’s’ from everybody. There were some hilarious commercials, like the Stephen Colbert pistachio commercial, and many others, but overall commercials were well under par compared to years past.

Overall Super Bowl 48 was a big success, and now has open new doors for other cold weather open stadiums to host the major event in the future.
